Fairmont-South Robeson Heritage Center Construction pictures

The Heritage Center site began as Popes Department Store in July 1965.  The store later became Super 10. This picture is from June 1987. The future Fairmont-South Robeson Heritage Center. This construction worker is dressed in a proctective suit due to the removal of material containing asbestos from the site. Plumbing is installed for the bathrooms. Duct work is installed for the heating and air system. Employees from Harvey Dial Masonry set up scaffolding in order to do some brick repair work. The red metal siding was removed to reveal beautiful brick arches that will be repaired to give the building a restored historical look. Workers remove the old glass storefront windows and install wall studs in preparation to give the building a traditional brick front facade. The brick was removed from the second floor windows and will be replaced with real windows at a later date. Studs are put in place for the interior walls of the community center. There will be a long hall separating two smaller classrooms from the main meeting room. Windows installed in second floor and boards put up on one story level in preparation for stucco work.
